Professional Biography:

Barbara B. Shadden is Professor/Director of the Program in Communication Disorders and Co-Director of the Office for Studies on Aging at the University of Arkansas. She has served previously as Services Coordinator at United Cerebral Palsy in Bridgeport, CT, Co-Coordinator of Neuropathology Services, University of Tennessee, and speech-language consultant to two hospitals. She is Board Certified in Adult Neurologic Communication Disorders. Dr. Shadden received her Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee. She is an ASHA Fellow, active in ASHA Gerontology SID and accreditation initiatives, as well as past president of ArkSHA and the CAPCSD. She is currently a Board Member of the Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders and Sciences.

Academic Interests and Accomplishments:

Dr Shadden has published and presented on topics in aging, neurogenics, discourse, and augmentative communication, including four textbooks and editorship of four journal issues. Her commitment to teaching is evident in her selection as Co-Director of the University of Arkansas Teaching and Faculty Support Center from 1997-2000. Most recent research and service interests focus on health of seniors and on caregiver needs and issues. Her efforts have been recognized by her receipt of the COEHP Career Award, Teaching Award, and Service Award, election to the U of A Teaching Academy, a Distinguished Service Award, Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders, 1998, and receipt of the ASHA Fellow award, among others.
