Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy Professional Development

Experts will provide education on Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy. It involves neuromuscular re-education or repatterning of the facial and oral muscles as well as facial exercises and behavioral modifications to improve tongue position, breathing, chewing, and swallowing.

  • 8:30-9 a.m. — Event Check-in
  • 9-9:10 a.m. — Overview of orofacial myology and physiological nature of speech, feeding and swallowing
  • 9:10-9:20 a.m. — Overlap of OMDs and SLP scope of practice
  • 9:20-9:40 a.m. — Development of oral motor and overlap between speech and swallowing development
  • 9:40-10:00 a.m. — Structural implications that can impact speech/swallowing
  • 10-10:45 a.m. — Tethered Oral Tissues
  • 10:45-11 a.m. — Functional OM Exam Demo
  • 11-12 p.m. — Lunch
  • 12-1 p.m. — Assessment: what to assess and why to assess
  • 1-1:50 p.m. — Myofunctional Therapy for Speech and Feeding/Swallowing
  • 1:50-2 p.m. — Closing

Learning Objectives

By the end of the symposium, participants will:

  1. Describe what an orofacial myofunctional disorder is and how it impacts speech, feeding and swallowing skills
  2. Explain how structural or physiological incompetencies can impact speech, feeding and swallowing skills
  3. List three tips for assessing and treating orofacial myofunctional disorders

Satisfactory Completion of Course

If you are seeking ADE, BCBA and ASHA CEUs, you must complete the self-assessment/session evaluation form for each session you attend. This form will be located in your event folder along with specific instructions for completion. Participants seeking BCBA and ASHA CEUs must sign in and out for each session attended with the designated person.

Refunds and Cancellation Policy

All registration payments are considered final. There will be no refunds administered for this event.

Dissatisfied with the event? Our goal is to provide the best continuing education experiences possible for our participants. Individuals who are dissatisfied with the continuing education provided, including advertising, are encouraged to email cdis@uark.edu to attempt to resolve any issues.

No Show

If a registration has been made and fees paid, registration fees will not be refunded or credited toward a future event.

Inclement Weather and Event Cancellation

Should inclement weather prevent an event from occurring on the scheduled date or circumstances require cancellation of the event, we will attempt to reschedule it. If the registrant still chooses to participate on the event's new date, all fees as well as cancellation policies will apply to the rescheduled event. Due to expenses incurred to host the symposium, if we cannot reschedule the symposium, a refund minus a processing fee of $30 will be given to the registrant.
