Undergraduate Scholarships

National Student Speech Language Hearing Association:

  • Undergraduate NSSLHA Scholarship
  • Application opens in October and is due December
  • Awarded to: Communication Sciences and Disorders (CDIS) program sophomores (4 given at $500 each) and juniors (6 given at $1,000 each); must be NSSLHA member: must have minimum 3.25 cumulative grade-point average

SeniorCare.com: Aging Matters Scholarship

  • Judging will be based on the submission quality of the application, which will include a short, 1000 word or less essay on why Aging Matters to the applicant.
  • Amount: $1,500
  • Application deadline: May 15, 2021

CaptionCall Scholarship

  • Be a current undergraduate student planning to pursue graduate studies in audiology.
  • Be a current graduate student in an audiology program.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0.

Undergraduate or Graduate Scholarships

College of Education and Health Professions Scholarship

  • Application opens each Jan. 1 and is due Feb. 15
  • Awarded to: undergraduate and graduate CDIS students; applicants must complete the General Scholarship Application and COEHP Conditional Scholarship Application in the AcademicWorks system

American Association on Health and Disability's Frederick J. Krause Scholarship on Health and Disability

  • Must be a student with a disability (as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act) who is enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate speech-language pathologist program at an accredited university (among other select majors listed on application)
  • Must be at least a sophomore in college
  • If in an undergraduate program, must be enrolled full time; if in a graduate program, must be enrolled at least part time
  • Must be a U.S. citizen/legal resident
  • Preference given to applicant with community service/volunteer history
  • Amount: under $1,000
  • Application deadline: Nov. 15

Health Resources & Services Administration Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students

  • Must be from a disadvantaged background as defined by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident
  • Must be enrolled full-time in an accredited undergraduate or graduate speech pathology program (among other select health-related majors listed on application)
  • Amount: Varies
  • Application deadline: Dec. 31

Indian Health Service Health Professions Scholarship

  • Must be a member of a federally recognized American Indian or Alaska native tribe
  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate health profession preparation program (including SLP)
  • Must have a 2.0 GPA
  • Must agree to fulfill a two-year service commitment to serve at an Indian health facility after graduation
  • Amount: varies
  • Application deadline: March 28

Karlind T. Moller Cleft/Craniofacial Scholarship for Speech Pathology/Audiology Students/ACPA

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited SLP or audiology degree program
  • Must plan an undergraduate or graduate research project in cleft/craniofacial anomalies related to SLP
  • Amount: $500 and one-year student membership to American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association
  • Application deadline: Feb. 1

National Black Association for Speech- Language and Hearing Student Research Award

  • Endowed Scholarships available to General Graduate Student Scholarship Applicants (based on eligibility)
    • Awarded to: students entering or enrolled in full-time master's and doctoral CDIS degree programs; non-U.S. citizens; up to 3 given at $5,000 each
    • Awarded to: students entering or enrolled in full-time master's and doctoral CDIS degree programs; members of a racial or ethnic minority group and are U.S. citizens; up to 3 given at $5,000 each
    • Awarded to: students entering or enrolled in full-time master's and doctoral CDIS degree programs; must be active National NSSLHA members; up to 3 given at $5,000 each
    • Awarded to: students entering or enrolled in full-time master's and doctoral CDIS degree programs; 1 given at $5,000 each

Arkansas Speech-Language Hearing Association (ArkSHA)

  • Betty Bass Scholarship
  • Awarded to students enrolled in a Communication Sciences and Disorders graduate program in the state of Arkansas. (Proof of enrollment required — faculty advisor or program director signature.)
  • The applicant must be an Arkansas resident who, at present, plans to work in-state after graduation
  • One scholarship, $1,000 awarded each year

National Association of Junior Auxiliaries (NAJA)

  • Amount: Varies
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be a permanent resident of a state with a Junior Auxiliary chapter — includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas
  • Must be enrolled in a graduate program addressing special needs of children and youth — includes SLP
  • Must plan to work with children after graduation
  • Application deadline: Feb 1
  • Must be a master's or doctoral-level (doctor of audiology/Au.D.) student or a doctoral-level student pursuing research in SLP or audiology in a CAPCSD-member program (Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders)
  • Amount: $3,000
  • Application deadline: Nov 1

EBS Healthcare Scholarship Program

  • Must be in your second year of graduate studies or entering a clinical fellowship in a U.S. SLP program
  • Must intend to practice as a clinician with pediatrics after graduation
  • Must provide two references
  • Must submit an essay

Charles A. Frueauff Foundation Scholarship

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited graduate SLP program
  • Must have a 3.25 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need

Sam and Millie Hilburn Scholarship/Scottish Rites Foundation

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must have a verified affiliation with a Masonic organization
  • Must be enrolled in a graduate program in child language disorders

Invo Healthcare/Progressus Therapy/National Black Association for Speech-Language-Hearing Scholarship

  • Must be enrolled in an ASHA-accredited master's program in Communication Sciences and Disorders (SLP)
  • Must submit an essay

AMBUCS Scholarship

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be in your junior/senior year of an accredited speech-language pathology bachelor's degree program or in an accredited graduate program leading to a master's or doctoral degree in speech-language pathology
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must demonstrate academic achievement

American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Student Ethics Essay Award

  • Must be enrolled full- or part-time in an undergraduate or graduate level CSD program in the US
  • Must submit essay on given topic

American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Students Preparing for Academic-Research Careers Award

  • Must have been accepted by/enrolled full- or part-time into an undergraduate CSD program, CAA-accredited master's degree in SLP program, or CAA-accredited entry-level clinical AuD program
  • Must be a national NSSLHA member
  • Amount: $1,000
  • Application deadline: April 15

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate college/university in US or Canada
  • Must be studying SLP
  • Must submit a video addressing your future plans on working with seniors and how a senior has inspired you
  • Amount: $1,000

  • Must be a second-semester junior or first-semester senior major in SLP (among other select majors), OR

  • Must be an undergraduate student preparing to take the GRE

Fellowships and Scholarships through the Graduate School

American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), ASH Foundation Graduate Scholarships:

Autism Science Foundation Pre- and Postdoctoral Training Awards

  • Must be a graduate student, medical student or postdoctoral fellow in a program that relates to autism spectrum disorder
  • Special consideration given to studies with a focus on gender issues in ASD
  • Special consideration given to studies that involve a genetic subtype of autism or groups most likely to be diagnosed with ASD
  • Amount: $35,000
  • Application deadline: Dec. 2

Benjamin Franklin Lever Tuition Fellowship

  • Must be admitted to the University of Arkansas Graduate School without condition
  • Applications must be submitted to the Office of Graduate Fellowships and Student Support, GEAR 213 or gradfunding@uark.edu by June 15 for the fall semester
  • A complete application packet will include:
    • A completed Benjamin Franklin Lever Tuition Fellowship nomination/application form
    • A one-page statement of purpose, discussing your goals for your graduate studies and how the Lever fellowship will help you achieve those goals
    • All transcripts are submitted to Graduate Admissions

Bilingual Therapies Graduate Scholarship

  • Must be enrolled in an ASHA-accredited graduate SLP program in the U.S.
  • Must have native or near-native proficiency in a second language
  • Must submit essay
  • Must have personal interview
  • Must agree to work for bilingual therapies full-time for one year after graduation
  • Amount: $2,500
  • Application deadline: July 15 for fall, Nov. 15 for spring

Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders Frances J. Laven Scholarship

  • Must be a CAPCSD member in good standing
  • Must be enrolled as a graduate student in a professional CAPCSD-member program (master's in SLP, Au.D. or SLP-D)
  • Must have shown exemplary service to the community, university or greater discipline
  • Must submit a nomination letter from a faculty mentor
  • Amount: $5,000
  • Application deadline: Jan 5

Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders Plural Publishing Scholarship

  • Must be a CAPCSD member in good standing
  • Amount: $1,000
  • Application deadline: March 1

National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing Scholarship for Future Business Owners

  • Must be currently enrolled in an ASHA-accredited master's program in SLP
  • Must plan to be present at the NBASLH convention
  • Must submit an introductory business plan/concept summary
  • Must submit a recommendation letter
  • Amount: $1,500

Sertoma Communicative Disorders Scholarship Application

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be enrolled in an ASHA-accredited graduate SLP program in the U.S.
  • Must have a 3.5 GPA cumulative for all undergraduate and graduate coursework

Speech Pathology Master's Programs Scholarships

The P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship Fund

  • The P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship Fund, established in 1949, is a program which provides scholarships for selected women from other countries for graduate study (master’s or doctorate) in the United States and Canada. Applicants must be qualified for admission to full-time graduate study and working towards a graduate degree.
  • The maximum amount awarded to a student is $12,500. A student who is a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada is not eligible. However, a student with residency for tax purposes only may apply.
  • Applicants must have a full year of coursework remaining, be enrolled and in residence for the entire school year. Scholarships are not given for online courses, research, internships or for practical training if not combined with coursework. Doctoral students who have completed coursework and are working only on dissertations are not eligible as first-time recipients.
